Mouth That Roars

Bill Liblick has made a name for himself of National TV Talk Shows where he spouted his outspoken views from the front row. Now he offers you his opinion every week in the "MOUTH THAT ROARS" Column in the Sullivan County Post.

It’s time we look at the flip side of the coin

So what if Sullivan County is one of the most depressed counties in New York. Shouldn’t we all strive to be number one, even if it is to be the most poverty stricken part of New York?

The time has come for us to stop complaining and learn how to do more with less.

What do we want from our elected officials anyway? Are they really there to make government more accountable and efficient? Of course not!

We need more politicians who are only concerned with power and lining their own pockets. Elected officials should protect self interests, friends, and financial connections. We really should elect people on popularity not qualifications.

Perhaps we are jealous we are not part of a political inner circle filled with devious schemes. Perhaps we are envious they know how to get away with things like double dipping.

Enough with all the talk about government consolidation! We need more government so those in power can hire more of their friends and family members. Three cheers for nepotism.

There is nothing wrong with state mandated programs even if they are bleeding honest legitimate taxpayers to death. More people should learn how to beat the system in order to receive social services. We should be elated Sullivan County has become a gateway for so many because places like New York City make it harder and more time consuming for them to receive subsidies and shelter.

Can we blame those who want to move here because they want to be near family who reside in one of our nearby correctional facilities?

Instead of being absorbed with fighting crime, drugs, and gangs – look at the bright side. Be happy so many are employed thanks to it. Where would law enforcement, prosecutors, correction officers, and drug counselors be without them?

And, if it weren’t for registered sex offenders our motels would be empty.

We should embrace the fact we are not getting casino gaming. It would have been an immoral attempt to drive us out of a financial crisis by forcing innocent people into the hands of the devil. There is not one municipality that has ever benefited from gaming.

Shame on the Sullivan County legislature and CRMC for their ban on smoking! People have every right to decide what is right for their own bodies. Besides, smoking provides our medical professionals with an income.

Enough with the gantseh megillah over our environment and gas drilling! The American Dream is to make money, and those people who own land have every right to earn an income even if it is not proven safe. Those who don’t like it should move! Drill Baby Drill!

The diatribe how Sullivan County needs economic development is tiresome. We had our turn with economic development and tourism – it is time for others to flourish.

And, instead of complaining about tax exempt properties, learn how to get your own property tax exempt or shut up!

I think you got the message by now – April Fools.
