Village of Monticello Elections Will Determine If Chaos Returns

Village of Monticello politics has always been in constant turmoil. Who can forget the national media attention involving former Mayor Gordon Jenkins and the other Village scandals?

Under the leadership of Mayor George Nikolados things have begun to get a lot better in Monticello. Government is operating smoothly with administrative staff including Janine Gandy, Gary Lasher, Jay Sherb, Chuck Brodowsky, and Robert Nelson.  The Police Department led by Police Chief Robert Mir is doing an incredible job in fighting crime.

All that could change on Tuesday if the electorate of Monticello does not come out to vote in the Village elections.

Gordon Jenkins is once again seeking political office running with his girlfriend Rochelle Massey for Village Trustee. Trustee Carmen Rue and her undermining politics is supportive of these efforts.

I know – You can’t make this stuff up!

All is not lost. Village of Monticello voters have two credible people running for Village Trustee. Charles Sabatino and Michael Greco.

Sabatino who currently serves on the Village Board is known as being the person of reason working with all factions. He has demonstrated his willingness and ability to put politics aside and do what is best for the Village of Monticello. He has been a strong advocate to bring business back to Monticello.

Michael Greco offers true leadership for the Village of Monticello. He has a long and respected history being involved with our youth. He brought free swimming lessons and youth sports programs such as indoor soccer and a teen basketball league to the Village.

Greco has worked with workforce development to get jobs for our youth offering them a future. As Sabatino he is a strong advocate to bring business to the Village of Monticello.

The other major election is for Village of Monticello Justice. The seat left vacant by Josephine Finn is pitting former Mayor and Police Chief Douglas Solomon against former Mayor Gary Sommers.

Without a doubt, Douglas Solomon deserves to be elected Village Justice. Solomon has the vast experience in law enforcement and knowledge of the judiciary to excel in the position. Equally, Solomon has the demeanor needed in a village court such as Monticello’s.

Electing Gary Sommers Village Justice would be a disservice to the people of Monticello. He offers no reason as to why he should be elected Village Justice.

Voter turnout will determine the outcome of the Village elections. Rue and Jenkins know how to deliver votes and voters to the polls and by absentee.

If you are registered to vote in the Village of Monticello and you care about its future – Please Vote on Tuesday for Charles Sabatino and Michael Greco for Village Trustees and Douglas Solomon for Village Justice.

Voting will take place Tuesday March 15, 2022, from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Ted Stroebele Center.

As in every election of late, the winners might not be declared until all the absentee votes are counted.
