The shutdown of the Federal Government is reckless and irresponsible, and those members of congress who participated in this destructive ploy should be removed from office and be forced to return their pay checks and lucrative perks to the Department of Treasury.
These members of Congress are making us the laughingstock of the world. Not only do they not show any shame or remorse, but they could careless that they are destroying our great country and reputation on the world stage.
Thankfully Congressman Chris Gibson did the right thing and opposed a government shutdown. Whether he did it because it was a smart political move to sway voters in a congressional district that is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, it was the right thing to do.
We elect people who often say they want to work together, put political difference aside, and do what is right for the public. In reality the end result is often divisiveness, rhetoric, and partisan politics that is more destructive than productive.
Blaming and finger pointing should not go to one political party for all this. All political parties should be ashamed, embarrassed, and take responsibility for the governmental cesspool they have created. And, this goes for all levels of government.
People run for office because they say they want to deliver us better government.
People run for office because they say they care and want to make life better for all of the people.
The simple reality is that we lack leadership on all levels of government.
We lack compassion. We lack honesty and dedication. And, we lack a desire to make government work for all the people.
When someone tries to step up to the plate and do the right thing, they are usually smeared and attention is diverted from the true issues at hand. Point in case is this unnecessary shut down of the government.
They say this is about health care. But, in reality the health care industry controls both Republicans and Democrats. They are among the largest lobbying group, and elected officials need to play ball with them if they want to get funded for their reelection campaigns.
Drug companies are reeking in billions of dollars in profits. In other countries the same drugs are selling much cheaper. Why? Because we allow it!
As a civilized society, every human being must be entitled to health care, and it should not matter if one is rich or poor. It is amazing how the spin, negativity and derogatory labeling are placed on programs that provide health care.
Our congress had years to debate this issue. It is tragic that the very people who are being used by the wealthy to fight healthcare reform are people who actually need it. They are being used in massive media campaign with mistruths.
When people are polled if they support Obama Care the results are no, but when the very same people are asked if they support The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) it is overwhelmingly yes.
In politics one has to be a realist and look and analyze the facts, but sadly we instead are pitted with rhetoric and name calling from both sides aisle.
We often hear about the economic recovery. Whom did this economy recover for? The rich from both sides of the aisle, that’s whom. While corporate America was bailed out, and our stock market is at record highs, and unemployment levels are tragically high.
Can you imagine four years ago we were warned that stocks would take decades to recover and bounce back? Somehow stocks that crashed went from doubling to tripling to quadrupling to quintupling. How did that happen?
Foreign investment is eating up corporate America. They are buying up property in major municipalities like New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. How did we allow that happen?
Congress is busy holding our Nation hostage and stopping government while doing nothing to fix our country.
What happened to democracy?
Whether we agree with him or not, we quickly forget that President Obama was overwhelmingly reelected last year, and he probably would be this year too.
Members of the House of Representative and Senate also received a mandate from the electorate last year.
House Majority Leader John Boehner must do something to end this shutdown. He cannot allow a minority within his party control Congressional Republicans.
Boehner has to show he is a leader and stand up to them for the sake of our Nation. These people are out of touch with America. If Boehner cannot lead his caucus – He should step down and let someone else lead.
Perhaps the Citizen Action’s Rally protesting Boehner during a campaign stop in Sullivan County this summer was appropriate after all.
It is time for all this nonsense to stop, and for Congress to Get to Work for Our Country!
